Norton Antivirus Use Tips Make sure the Norton icon, on the task bar by the clock, looks like
the one here
If you get a pop-up window stating Norton has detected a virus, the first thing to do is write down the name of the virus. Next, as Norton asks what to do, just select the default choices. Many of the latest viruses send out files rather than infecting existing files and Norton will tell you it can’t repair them and ask if you want them quarantined. Always say yes.
When Norton is done, open up Norton Antivirus and click on Reports on the left side and go to the quarantine panel. If Norton says there are new updates and asks if it should try to repair the files, tell it no. Now select the files in the list and delete them. You can either delete them one by one or you can hold the Ctrl key down and click on all the files, and then select delete. Do not leave files in quarantine. If there are any files with a .dll extension, check with someone who knows to see if it is safe to delete them. They may be Windows system files that if you delete, Windows will no longer work. After you are done with Norton, go to Norton’s virus dictionary. Put in the name of the virus and check to see if any more cleanup is required. Sometimes the virus can make changes to system files which must either be undone manually or download a little program to repair. Remember, nothing is 100%, even with up to date antivirus software, you may still have problems from viruses, but with a little caution, your chances of remaining virus free are very favorable.
