The along awaited service pack for Windows Vista is still only in the beta stages and is still not expected until the first quarter of 2008.  That means it is going to be a long wait to get many of the problems with Vista repaired.

As I have said ever since Vista came out, particularly if you are using your computer in the workplace, I don't recommend purchasing a new computer with Vista installed.  Most of the manufacturers are making their systems available with XP or Vista.

Before purchasing a new system, be sure to check out Microsoft's software compatibility site and check out all the newsgroups for issues with hardware and software.  There are still a lot of problems.  This version of Windows is probably the worst of the bunch.
