Oh, the many pitfalls of purchasing a computer.  Well, here we go again.  Many of the new computers available at Costco, retail stores, and online come bundled with Windows 7 64-bit software.  I have mentioned this before regarding Windows XP and Vista, but now, more and more retail systems seem to be configured this way. If you are considering purchasing a new computer, be advised that you may have serious issues with a 64-bit operating system.

Hardware is always a big issue.  Drivers for hardware for a 64-bit system aren't always available, even with new hardware items.  You should always check the manufacturers web site to see if they have 64-bit drivers available for all of your hardware, including both stuff you have now and also for things you are contemplating purchasing.

A lot of software won't work properly with a 64-bit system, particularly older software.  Again, always check the web site of the vendor to see if this is going to be an issue.

I personally don't understand the marketing decisions of these companies to sell systems with the 64-bit system preinstalled.  I can understand the option of getting it if you want it, but to preinstall it is ridiculous.  Some systems come with a DVD to downgrade to a 32-bit system, but not all, so be aware this is a very important purchasing decision.

If a 64-bit system won't work for your situation, you will end up returning the computer.
