November 10, 2008 Well, it's anyone's guess when the next version of Windows, dubbed Windows 7, will be available. Microsoft was going to wait five years from the release of Windows Vista, but, since the corporate community seems to be hesitant of accepting Vista, most people think Windows 7 could be released as soon as late next year. The real question is, will it be worth waiting for? Ever since Microsoft announced it was developing Windows 95, they've promised faster startup and shutdown times, improved memory usage better fault tolerance, the list goes on forever. Other than a changer desktop look, and higher pricing, nothing has changed enough to get anyone excited. Pre-release betas of the new Windows are being released to testers, which seems to indicate that the new version is nearing release. One thing is for sure, each time a new Windows has been released since Windows 95, hardware and software issues have been rampant. I have never advocated upgrading an operating system. It's best to purchase a new computer with the system installed. Trouble is, will you be able to use your tried and true software and hardware, or will you again have to shell out the money for all new stuff again? I guess time will tell. Unless Microsoft can come up with some really revolutionary improvements or enhancements, I think they will just have another Vista on their hands. Almost none of the things they promised since Windows 95 have come to fruition. We've had to live with the headaches, incompatibilities, etc. So, we'll see if anything changes this time around.
