Help Desk Information

The Services link, on the left, details services provided to our customers.  Be sure to check out the free download link for links to Internet sites for antivirus, hardware & software update downloads and information.  Looking for something in particular?  If you're looking for a particular subject and want to find it fast, here's a tip.  Click on the Search link in the left column.  When the Google search starts up, type in what it is you are looking for, then, click the radio button where you would like to search, either the Internet, or this web site.  It makes it a lot easier to find a specific item or subject.  As I continue to add information for people learning to use a computer and to improve your skills further, it is much easier and faster to type in a reference and search this web site for the material you are looking for.

Ready for your own web site?

Most of my clients already know, but for those of you who don't, if you are deciding on starting your own web site or need assistance updating an existing site, please talk to me or contact Randy Strong at TriSystems Inc. to find out why it is extremely important to have your site technically correct before submitting it to the search engines, and make sure you don't fall into the trap of paying unnecessary maintenance and update fees.

Did Ya know?

Interesting Internet fact:  As of February 2010, worldwide there are 207,316,960  web sites active on the Internet containing over 550 billion web pages!  The web has doubled in size since 2004, and has increased by 30.9 million sites in 2006.  Which one's your home page?  Would you believe that in August of 1995, the number of Internet sites was only 18,957!

The amount of spam a person receives is a direct result of your web browsing and email habits. Those who get few spam messages are prudent as to what email attachments they open, and how cautious they are about giving out their email address (see here for more information.

As of July 2009, it’s estimated there are 14.5 billion spam messages sent per day, which is about 45% of the total email volume sent. It is estimated that, in 2007, the average email user received 2,715 spam messages every year. In 2009, that number has increased to 16,200. And remember, that number does not include the majority of spam messages which were filtered out by ISP spam filters. Did you know that Bill Gates gets 4 million spam messages a day? It is estimated that 8% of people respond to spam, so therefore, we don't foresee any decrease in spam emails. Make sure to update your Outlook mail rules regularly, use a yahoo or Windows Live email account, and be discrete about giving out your email address.  Now that we have the improvements in Internet Explorer 8, use the In-Private browsing when looking for information on the Internet.

As of March 1, 2010 the various antivirus programs are checking computers for 6,659,322 different viruses and threats.  That's right, over 6 million.  Make sure to keep your virus DAT files up to date!  As far as I'm concerned, adware and spyware are two of the biggest threats we are seeing now.  Click here for more information. Be careful when downloading ANYTHING!
