Changing Screen (display) settings (Continued)

Area 4 is called the vertical scroll bar.  When the desktop or running program area is larger than the area on the desktop, a scroll bar will appear so you can move down the screen.  The scroll bar is composed of two arrows, an up and a down arrow, and the slider.  If you click on an arrow, the screen will scroll one line each time you click on an arrow.  If you move your cursor in between the slider and the arrow in the direction you want to go, and then you click once, the screen will scroll one screen-full at a time.  You can also move your cursor over the slider, click and hold the left mouse button, and drag the slider in the direction you want to go.  This will allow you to move up or down the screen as you drag.

In the below screen shot, I am using the simple windows default screen to keep it simple. For more info on the Windows taskbar (shown at the bottom of the screen), click here.  Many of the programs you use all the time will have icons on the desktop.  To start a program, simply double-click it's icon.  If there is an icon on the desktop you don't want to be there, you can either click once with the left mouse button, then hit the Delete key on the keyboard, then confirm the delete, or, you can move the mouse over the icon, click the right mouse button, then click Delete on the pop up menu, then confirm the deletion.

The same holds true for deleting icons on the taskbar.  To add an icon to either the desktop or the taskbar, go to the icon on the Programs menu, right click on the icon you want, hold and drag the icon to either the desktop or the taskbar, then let go and either click on Create a shortcut here (if available on the menu) or Copy here. Never Click and drag using the left mouse button since this will move the icon.  If you decide later that you don't want the icon on the desktop and you delete it, you will no longer have an icon to start the program.  I personally prefer to put my icons on the taskbar since it is always available when programs are running. Icons on the desktop are covered up by running programs.

NOTE: In order to have icons available to click on to run programs next to the Start button you will need to right-click on the taskbar, then go to Toolbars, then click on Quick Launch.  The Quick Launch toolbar is where you will drag the icons to.
